How to Change Your Location on Sniffies (iPhone & Safari)

If you want to change your location on Sniffies — to look at another city before a trip, browse where you're about to move, or just see a different map than the one you're standing in — the first thing worth knowing is how Sniffies decides where you are. Get that right and the fix is simple. Get it wrong and you'll waste an afternoon on a VPN that does nothing.

Why Sniffies is different from most apps

Sniffies is a web app. It runs at sniffies.com in your browser rather than as a native App Store download, which is unusual for a location-based social app — and it's the key detail here. Because the whole experience lives in the browser, the location it shows you comes from the browser's location signal, not from a system-level GPS feed that a native app would tap.

That's good news on iPhone: anything that can change what your browser reports as your location will change what Sniffies' map centers on. It's also why this approach works on Sniffies but not on native cruising or dating apps like Grindr or Tinder, which read your device location directly and a Safari tool can't touch.

How Sniffies knows where you are

A site can locate you two ways, and they're not the same:

• Your IP address — a coarse, city-or-metro guess based on your network, and frequently wrong. This is the only thing a VPN changes.
• The browser Geolocation API (navigator.geolocation) — a precise latitude/longitude the browser hands over after you tap "Allow," derived from GPS and nearby Wi-Fi. This is what a map-based app needs to put you on a pin.

A map product reshapes everything around that precise coordinate, so that's the number that matters.

Why a VPN won't move you on Sniffies

This is the most common dead end. A VPN swaps your IP, so an IP lookup guesses a different city — but it doesn't touch navigator.geolocation. Sniffies still reads the precise coordinate from your browser and pins you exactly where your phone physically is. The map doesn't budge. (Full breakdown in VPN vs. location spoofing.) If you want the map to move, you have to change the coordinate the browser reports — not your IP.

How to change your location on Sniffies (iPhone)

Mobile Safari has no built-in setting to override your coordinate — turning off Location Services only blocks it, and private browsing does nothing to location. A Safari extension fills that gap. GeoSwitch is a native Safari extension that overrides navigator.geolocation, so any site you open in Safari — Sniffies included — reads the coordinate you choose.

1. Install GeoSwitch from the App Store (iOS 15 or later).
2. Open the Settings app, then Safari → Extensions, turn on GeoSwitch, and set its permission to Allow.
3. Open GeoSwitch, drop a pin on the map (or type coordinates, or search an address with Premium), and turn the toggle on.
4. Open sniffies.com in Safari and reload. When it asks for your location, allow it — it now reads the spot you chose.

The short version: Sniffies reads your location from the browser's Geolocation API, not your IP. A VPN changes the wrong number; a Safari coordinate override changes the right one.

What this does and doesn't do

• Safari web pages only. It works on Sniffies because Sniffies is a web app. It does not change your device's system GPS and does not affect native apps.
• It's not a VPN. It changes the geolocation coordinate, not your IP — so if you set a coordinate on the far side of the world while your IP says otherwise, a service that compares the two can notice the mismatch. Choosing a plausible coordinate avoids that.
• It's not anonymity. Your IP, account, time zone, and language can still indicate where you are. This is a location-control tool, not a privacy cloak.
• Play by the rules and stay safe. Follow Sniffies' community guidelines, and use ordinary caution when meeting anyone — changing the map doesn't change that.
